Resources

"Cycling Sojourner" (Into Action Publications, 2012) by Ellee Thalheimer.  We followed the Cascade Classic chapter of this book and found the maps, descriptions and suggestions spot-on. The cues for Crescent Creek to Quinn River are in the Updates section of the website.

"75 Classic Rides Oregon" (Mountaineers Books, 2012) by Jim Moore. This book is really heavy, so we photocopied the Portland pages to take with us, as well as the Aufderheide description. The book also contains a ride on Sauvie Island.

Portland Bureau of Transportation bike & walk maps. Excellent, and free. The pocket-sized citywide map served us well for biking in the city. We had the maps mailed to us before our trip. You can also pick them up at many businesses in Portland.

Ride the City / Portland. We used this free web service to map a bike-specific route from our lodging to the rental car pickup.

BikePortland.org. Terrific coverage of all aspects of the Portland bike scene. Links on this site led us to many of the resources above.

AirlineBagFees.com.This website helped us figure out how much we would be charged for for bringing our bikes on the plane.

Adventure Cycling Association. The go-to organization for bicycle travel in America. Maps, gear, how-to's, guided and do-it-yourself tours, networking, advocacy, and a wealth of information.

Cascade Scenic Bikeway Mini-Tour . A short travelogue on the Bike Around Bend blog by someone who pedaled the same loop in the reverse direction in July 2012. Check out his bike -- a Surly Long Haul Trucker with bar-end shifters (like Rick's).
