Barbecue

While we were viewing the volcano, Naoki & Miki arrived
at Jigoku Onsen after a three-hour drive from their home in Fukuoka prefecture.
Naoki is a bicycle enthusiast whom Kazuko had found on the Internet, and
together they had mapped out our first week's bike route. Naoki brought
his mint-condition Samsun fixed-gear bike, and a picture of his French
touring bike. He also has a DeRosa racing bike. Rick tried out the Samsun
in the parking lot, and Naoki tried Rick's bike. |

Outside our cabins, we barbecued chicken, potatoes and vegetables
on a hibachi that Kazuko brought, and we talked about bikes and travel.
